The Northern Ontario landscape has been an attractive place for many artists. I have lived on the French River for over sixty years enjoying the wind swept pines and rocky outcrops. The granite rock is ochre red in colour. The word Muskoka could be two Huron words: musquash-" it is red "and ooka," large rocks." You get lost in the textures and lines of these rocks as you paddle along the river's edge. How does an artist transform the scene into something unique? Through experimentation and use of materials I like to have the iconic white pine on a layer of old maps. Mapping Pines became a series that included collaging and layers of transparent acrylic paint. From the lakes of Muskoka, Georgian Bay and French River I continue to create smaller paintings as a token of my heart-felt passion for the area.
